UNIQUE ME

Wen Junhui
Becoming a Unique “ Me ”

Wen Junhui, who shines on stage, is actually also a positive boy in life. Approaching 27 years of age, he looks forward to the upcoming new challenges and growth that he will unlock. With a new year, he also has a new goal, hoping to bring the power of happiness to everyone through even more and better works. The day we met Wen Junhui, it was the beginning of summer in May, a gentle breeze brushed past our cheeks lightly and the sunlight was just right. We came to a bustling small building in downtown Seoul, tall buildings scattered around us with an amazing view. We basked in the sunlight after setting up, waiting for Wen Junhui's arrival. He arrives on set just as we completed our preparations, greeting everyone warmly and respectfully. He looks full of energy, and the staff around him can't help but relax because of his bright smile. In front of the camera, he generously displays his usual states — relaxed, fun, stylish, at ease; we caught many special moments, and kept many moments worth recording down in the editorial, letting it become a beautiful memory.

“ Let's be happier together! ”

Not long ago on 24th April, SEVENTEEN released their 10th mini album « FML », which was also their comeback after 9 months. During the interview, Wen Junhui recounts the recordings and production of songs for this album, and expresses that Every song is very interesting and special . He mentioned previously that this album promotes 2 title tracks at once, which meant that they were very confident about this whole album, and he shares: The time taken to practice the choreography for « Super » is one of the longer ones among all other SEVENTEEN tracks, making it almost the Top 5 (choreographies)! . In addition, the song « I Don't Understand But I Luv U » gave him a different feeling. During the recording for this song, it was in the midst of SEVENTEEN's world tour, after experiencing performing on stages in different parts of the world and meeting everyone, the feeling towards this song developed to be much deeper, When we recorded again, there were a few new and different things that surfaced. Mentioning one of the title tracks « F*ck My Life », Wen Junhui expresses that he likes it a lot. However in contrast to the emotions that were expressed in the lyrics, Wen Junhui feels that this is actually a song that openly narrates emotions/feelings. He says: Actually when different people look at a certain work or essay, their understanding and thoughts of it will definitely be different, even when the 13 of us first came to know this song and saw the lyrics, the feelings we had were definitely different as well.Indeed, there were much more emotions and feelings that the lyrics and MV had conveyed in this song, but I personally feel that through what this song conveys, I hope everyone finds an even better way of life that lets you find the littlest happiness and details in your busy life . Just like how he always displays his positive and energetic state on stage, Wen Junhui's personality off-stage is also the same. In his opinion, one's mindset in life is very important, Because life is made up of many small details, it's possible that there may not be many major ups and downs, but many small waves and whirlpools instead. These also require everyone to overcome it by themselves little by little .He seems to never be afraid of encountering difficulties, There's a saying, *'When a boat gets to the bridge-head, it will naturally go straight' , Wen Junhui has his own positive way of coping: The difficulties you are experiencing now, when you look back on it after overcoming it, it could be a beautiful memory. Every single thing will become part of our experience in life. The future is still long, don't leave out the many more and even more beautiful sceneries in the future because of the set-backs you're facing at present. Everyone will definitely become happier.

*(T/N: A Chinese idiom, meaning that everything will fall into place eventually and will turn out to be okay.)

“ Hoping to bring about more works to everyone ”

Wen Junhui who was born in Guangdong Shenzhen, became attached to the screen since young. Starting from the first advertisement shot with Best Actor Nick Cheung at 2 years old, to filming the movie « The Pye-Dog » with Eason Chan, George Lam and Eric Tsang at 10 years old, and winning the 2007 Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild's Best New Performer Silver Award and was nominated for the 2008 Best New Performer Award of the 27th Hong Kong Film Awards with the role of 'Lin ZhiHong'. Then proceeding to play the role of young Ip Man in « The Legend is Born: Ip Man » at 13 years old. Thinking back on it now, he still feels that the experience of acting together with many big names in the industry was very amazing. When I filmed « The Pye-Dog », there was a scene where I stood on the stage in school and sang. During then, those sitting in the audience watching me sing were all very very remarkable senior singers such as Eason Chan and George Lam, which is something that I can't even think of doing now . He laughs after and expresses: Back then I was indeed 'he who knows nothing, fear nothing'. Actually in 2009, Wen Junhui had the chance to remain in China to continue developing, Hong Kong Emperor Entertainment Group even sent him an invitation. But to him, there were still many dreams that he wanted to fulfill at that time. Wen Junhui shares, the thought of going to Korea to develop was actually influenced by a dream that he once had. In my dream, my family and friends were all congratulating me, but it wasn't because I got into the art school that I wanted to attend. There were many people around me who I didn't know, I had completed something with them and hence they congratulated me. When I think about it now, that should be debuting with my members, and becoming SEVENTEEN. He laughs as he recounts this seemingly bizarre experience, but in reality it is his choice that he is absolutely firm about. To him, everything in the present matches what he wants, creating more and better performances with SEVENTEEN members, continuing to complete subsequent works after « LIMBO », as well as other film works. All these feel fresh and interesting to him, constantly coming into contact with new fields/areas, constantly welcoming better challenges, constantly bringing about more works to everyone, Such a feeling is so amazing.

Because of all of you, I want to become a unique me

As the month of June arrives, Wen Junhui's 27th birthday draws closer. Actually he feels that every birthday he spends is very meaningful, and he cherishes it very much. I'm thankful to my mum, and I'm also thankful to the people around me on my birthday and the many blessings I receive from fans. This day has become even more meaningful because of all of you. To him, his mindset still remains the same despite turning a year older, but he feels that it is very important to be able to gain different kinds of growth every year. I want to become a unique me , he expresses his own understanding and meaning towards an 'idol': I feel that an idol is able to bring about some happiness to everyone, I would also like to spruce up their lives with a little more excitement through the things that we share. He hopes he could become someone unique like this, who spreads happiness to everyone. This 'unique me' is not referring to magnifying all my unique and different traits, but rather I feel that every single person in this world is a unique existence. I want to become one of them and let all know that everyone is different, everyone is unique and has our own unique beauty, and we have to appreciate our own beauty. This is what I hope to become, a unique idol.
